Cyprus Braces for Soaring Temperatures

Extreme Weather Warnings Issued

Cyprus is bracing for a sweltering heatwave, with temperatures expected to reach a staggering 44 degrees Celsius (111 degrees Fahrenheit) in some parts of the island. The Meteorological Office has issued a rare orange weather warning, the second-highest level of alert, as the country prepares for extreme heat conditions.

Yellow Warning in Effect

A yellow warning for extreme temperatures was issued on Wednesday, with temperatures expected to reach 32 degrees Celsius (89 degrees Fahrenheit) in the interior, 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit) on the coasts, and 23 degrees Celsius (73 degrees Fahrenheit) in the higher mountains. The Met Office has warned that these temperatures could pose a significant health risk, especially for vulnerable groups such as the elderly and young children.

Scorching Heat Expected

On Thursday, temperatures are expected to climb even higher, reaching 37 degrees Celsius (98 degrees Fahrenheit) inland and 33 degrees Celsius (91 degrees Fahrenheit) along the coast. The heat is expected to be accompanied by clear skies and light winds, providing little relief from the scorching conditions.

Stay Informed and Take Precautions

The Met Office urges the public to take precautions during this period of extreme heat. Residents are advised to stay indoors as much as possible, drink plenty of fluids, and avoid strenuous activity during the hottest hours of the day. Those who must go outdoors should wear loose-fitting, lightweight clothing and seek shade whenever possible.

Updates and Forecasts

The Met Office will continue to monitor the situation and issue updates as necessary. For the latest weather forecasts and warnings, visit the official Met Office website or follow their social media channels.
